Sports Betting Scams – What to Avoid?
I am sure you all have seen the ads for the handicapper’s that claim to have inside team information and “The 5 Star Lock of the Year”.You’ll be able to discover numerous ads for these services in the games sheet of some tabloid, or on the internet.
They take advantage of naïve people looking for fast cash. Usually these “experts” boast an incredible and unbelievable winning percentage of something like 80 percent.
In sports betting public there is a cancer named scamdicappers. These people don’t care about earning money for their customers. The scam is so simple, and the number of those who will fall for it so large, that the people behind it may live off of it for a lifetime.
Naive gamblers by the hundreds will always be around. Some people are at rock bottom; others just want to make it big. Gamblers at the end of their rope will call up these people, hoping for a free pick and a jackpot. At the end of the call, the gambler has wired money through Western Union for a “sure-fire” pick package. In fact, these charlatans don’t put bets on their selections. Once again, selling picks in this way is basically just a huge rip off and a way to part you from your money.
It’s a simple fraud. The fake handicapper simply tells each of his callers to wager on different teams. Callers that accidentally win will call to purchase more expensive packages
One example would be that four separate people try to call a handicap service the day the Patriots/Bills and the 49’ers/Seahawks games are being offered to gamble on. Once they get the caller’s complete relevant details the service informs the first caller of the days picks, the New England and San Francisco teams. They tell the second caller to bet on the Bills and Chargers. The service direct’s Caller 3 to bet on the Jets and the Chargers while telling Caller 4 the Bills and the Cowboys are the play today.
Clearly, out of the callers, one of them will be 2-0. It is likely that this caller will be conned into a costly pick deal. Two other caller’s will end up 1-1 and only have to worry about paying juice. This pair of callers might be persuaded to try out the service once more. One extra free pick is given for those who put themselves back in the lottery for the lucky pick, and a follow-up picks package. probably a good deal of money to either a bookie or online sportsbook.
By multiplying these callers by a factor of hundreds or so weekly, it is easy to see how much money this con can make. If once you already got the winning picks, it is highly unlikely that you will continue receiving the winning picks in future. Eventually you lose any money you might have won with the lucky picks and usually end up in a bigger hole than before you made that fateful call. It’s easy to quit the service after you’ve been scammed. Unfortunately by then it’s too late.
